About TFC

Our History

Employment Opportunities
Inspired by the Reggio approach, our spaces are designed to be beautiful, inviting, and inspiring for all.

Our teachers are seen as educators, valued for the love, joy and knowledge they bring to their work each day.

Our children are seen as capable, valued for the perspectives and creativity they bring to the work of play.

Our families are seen as partners, valued for their expertise of their own children as well as their vulnerability on their own parenting journeys.

Together, we all make TFC the beautiful and unique place that it is.

Our Vision
The Family Cooperative envisions early childhood education that empowers each child's authentic, capable and dynamic self. We envision educational communities in which each child, faculty member and caregiver is inspired to be both teacher and learner.

Our Values
Children are the heart of our inclusive community.
They are valued for their interactions and work through play, for navigating diverse relationships daily, for their own individual pace, for their capability, innate curiosity, compassion, courage, and innovative perspectives. They are seen as active citizens in our society and valued as experts in their own learning journey.

Educators are valued for their heart, their joyful play, their understanding of the young child, their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and their relationships with families, each other, and the greater community.

Families are valued for their authentic, open communication with teachers, their vulnerability on their parenting journeys, the expertise and passion they bring to our community, and their participation in our co-op model.

Our Philosophy
The purpose of the Family Cooperative is to serve children in an inclusive, enriching, and nurturing educational environment.  It is our mission to care for and educate children through engaging in an emergent, child-centered curriculum in a cooperative setting that supports strong parental involvement.  The goals of our curricular practices are to facilitate children’s relationships within the community, explorations of their environment, and investigations of the world.  We strive to support children’s independence, empathy, and intellectual curiosity.

Our philosophy is based on the concept of an emergent, child-centered, developmentally appropriate practice, inspired by the Reggio Emilia early philosophy. We work toward fostering the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of children by taking the time to develop a unique relationship with each family and each child that comes to our school. It is important to us to create a nurturing, safe environment that serves as an extension of the home. Each piece of the child’s life - family, environment, school, peers, and teachers - engage in powerful conversations with each other, creating a coherent, integrated learning model throughout the life of the child.
