Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

TFC's Commitment to Inclusion & Equity

At TFC we are committed to doing the work of building a school environment that embraces diversity, pursues equity, and fosters inclusion. To that end, we are partnering with our community of teachers, families, and board members to craft a representative statement that appropriately reflects the values of our institution. Throughout this process we will continue to educate ourselves on our own biases, and strive to create and maintain an inclusive community. We understand that this path is a journey, and our work in this area is ever growing and evolving. We will not be perfect in our endeavors, and we all have much to learn, but we will continue to examine ourselves and redefine what Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mean to our institution as we reflect on our work and grow together.

Resources for Teachers & Families

We see the collection of resources as an ongoing collaboration between the faculty and families of TFC. Here are some of the articles, websites, books and social media accounts that we have been following. We value diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. We foster a community where all individuals feel valued and embraced for their culture, sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, religion and ability, We  ask that you please share any additional resources with us so that we can share here with the broader community.

Excellent article arguing a need for anti-racist education rather than anti-bias education.

Books for Children

Charlesbridge publishes high-quality books for children, with a goal of creating lifelong readers and lifelong learners. Their books encourage reading and discovery in the classroom, library, and home. They believe that books for children should offer accurate information, promote a positive worldview, and embrace a child's innate sense of wonder and fun. To this end, they continually strive to seek new voices, new visions, and new directions in children's literature. Two of their collections are linked below and are also represented in TFC's classroom libraries. Ask your children's teachers about which books are classroom favorites:
